The story of Dean and Maryann's 1963 ½ Ford Galaxie is surprisingly familiar. Their car when dating in 1964 was a 1963 ½ Ford Galaxie.
Dean and Maryann got married and have been together all those years.
It took 45 years for them to get back to cruising in a Galaxie. They completed the paint work on this car in 2009 and now enjoy cruising
in a car similar to what they had in 1964.
In 1964 the Galaxie was quite the car to have. Ford Motor Company designed and built the car with the “fast back” roof
to make it a more aerodynamic for racing. The car was made available to the public so it would be legal to run as a race car in NASCAR.
Another surprise, in the 60's the “stock cars” in NASCAR had to be stock cars that were available to the public for everyday drivers.
Holman and Moody built race cars for Fred Lorenzen. He was the “Golden Boy” of NASCAR and the largest money winner in NASCAR when he retired in 1972.
It seems every “big name” driver drove a Ford Galaxie at one time or another when this style car was used as a race car.
I’m only guessing, but Dean was probably quite the guy with his 1963 ½ Galaxie back in 1964.
It’s great seeing Dean and Maryann enjoying the memories now and sharing with others.
